The Town of Addison Environmental Health Division received notice from the Dallas County Laboratory that samples of mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). The samples were collected on September 12 at the 3590 Beltway Drive. The Environmental Health Division will be fogging the Town of Addison, weather permitting, on Wednesday, September 17, and Thursday, September 18, beginning at 2:30 AM.
Signs will be placed in the neighborhood notifying residents of the fogging.
The chemical used for the mosquito fogging is a synthetic pyrethroid called Sumithrin. It emulates the naturally derived, botanical insecticides known as pyrethrins found in chrysanthemum flowers. It is effective on the mosquitoes it comes in contact with, it breaks down quickly in the environment, and it is non-persistent. It does not pose a significant risk to people or animals; however, we kindly request that you wait until we are finished before walking your pet or going for a morning walk or run.
