The Addison Citizens Academy offers Addison residents a unique opportunity to gain insight into their town's governance and operations. Participants engage in a series of sessions designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of municipal functions, facilitated by tours, activities, and direct interaction with town leaders and staff.


Objective of a Citizens Academy

To educate residents about the workings of Addison's government and foster greater civic engagement.

Duration & Content

The 2025 Citizens Academy will take place over the course of five sessions:

Sessions 1 to 4 will occur on the following Saturdays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

  • Saturday, October 4 at New Town  Hall | 15650 Addison Rd.
  • Saturday, October  11 at Joint Fire Training Facility | 13333 Hutton Dr., Farmers Branch, 75234
  • Saturday, October 25 at Addison Municipal Court Building | 4799 Airport Parkway
  • Saturday, November 8 at Addison Athletic Club | 3900 Beltway  Dr.

Session 5 will occur at a Council meeting in November or December to be announced.

Presentations will be made by Addison's City Manager, Department Directors, and Town staff. Participants will tour the Town and its facilities with opportunities to interact with staff and some of the equipment used to carry out the business of the Town.

Note: Schedule is subject to change.

Benefit

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with their municipal leaders and gain first-hand knowledge of town operations, enhancing their ability to serve on advisory bodies and increase their civic engagement.

Application Information & Fee

  • There is a $50 Administrative fee to participate in Citizens Academy. You may pay this through the application.
  • The application form will open July 18 and remain open through Labor Day.
  • The 2025 Citizens Academy is limited to 24 participants.
  • All participants must fill out the liability waiver(PDF, 193KB).
