Mexican Sugar Takes Over Former TGI Fridays Location
Published on April 14, 2025
At its April 8 Meeting, the Council approved a Special Use Permit (SUP) for Mexican Sugar, a full-service restaurant featuring Mexican flavors with a modern twist, to open at 4951 Belt Line Road—the former TGI Fridays location at the corner of Belt Line and Quorum Roads. The concept, owned by the group behind Addison favorite Ida Claire, also has locations in Plano, Las Colinas, and Uptown Dallas.
Plans include a complete interior and exterior renovation, plus a new 952-square-foot patio addition near the entrance. Once open, the restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor seating for more than 300 guests. The project will also bring landscaping enhancements and provide pedestrian access easements to support future improvements in the area.
