At the May 27 meeting, the City Council directed staff to move forward with eliminating property taxes on personal leased vehicles. Since 2002, Addison has taxed these vehicles, defined by state law as passenger cars or trucks under 9,000 pounds used primarily for personal purposes.
Following the Council’s direction, staff will prepare an ordinance amendment for consideration at an upcoming meeting. If adopted and submitted to the appraisal district by February 2026, the change would take effect in 2027.
Addison currently collects approximately $120,000 annually from this tax. Removing it will require the Town to adjust other revenue sources or reduce overall property tax revenue to maintain budget balance.
