At its March 24 meeting, the City Council approved two agreements with Advanced Security Technologies LLC for MVB3X Modular Vehicle Barriers to enhance safety at special events. A purchase agreement in an amount not to exceed $99,934 was approved and funded through a $100,000 Justice Assistance Grant secured by the Addison Police Department. In addition, Council approved a rental agreement in an amount not to exceed $91,650, funded through the Hotel Fund, to supplement barriers for the 2026 special event season, including Kaboom Town! and Oktoberfest.
Prior to 2024, the Town used a variety of traffic control devices such as wooden barriers, steel barricades, and cones, which primarily served as visual deterrents. Following updated training and national events, staff recognized the need for enhanced protection against vehicle intrusions and improved crowd management during emergencies. The MVB3X system is a crash-tested, modular vehicle barrier designed to provide increased protection while allowing quick repositioning for emergency access.
