As we head into the summer months, the Town is proactively managing aquatic weeds in its ponds.
Staff recently applied a non-toxic pond dye that helps control algae and weed growth by limiting sunlight penetration. The dye is safe for fish, turtles, ducks, and other wildlife. Residents may also notice American pondweed in a few areas of the pond.
The Town's pond maintenance contractor, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife, recommends preserving this native plant for its important ecological benefits. American pondweed helps control algae by absorbing excess nutrients, provides natural habitat and cover for fish, and serves as a valuable food source for aquatic life and waterfowl.
