At its September 8 meeting, the City Council approved a $261,081 construction agreement with APR Group, Inc. for improvements to the southeast entrance of Celestial Park and established a total project budget of $288,416.72.
The project will address erosion caused by stormwater runoff on the entrance’s steep decomposed granite slope while enhancing the area in keeping with the park’s original design. Improvements include terraces, retaining walls, stairs, an ADA-accessible ramp, and a water fountain. The decomposed granite will remain as part of the entrance design, with the new terraces helping slow and channel water down the slope.
The project also includes replacing the park’s only drinking fountain, which has condition and plumbing issues, and connecting the new fountain to the sanitary sewer system. The replacement will include drinking options for both people and pets and will be designed to withstand cold weather.
Council also approved an additional enhancement to a poem on the entrance steps.
