Seconds Count in an Emergency!

Addison Alert allows us to call, text or email residences in targeted areas of the Town in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (tornado warning, missing child or evacuation notices).

Also, as part of the Addison Alert System, you are able to request updates on Town-related non-emergency issues like changes in trash collection, special events, mosquito spraying and more.

Special Note About Caller ID:

The following number will display when you receive an emergency notification:  972-450-1100.  We encourage all cell phone users to save these numbers in their phones for quick recognition of these important warnings at the time of delivery.

How Do I Register for Addison's Emergency Communications System?

Visit AddisonAlert.com and follow the prompts. For those who are hearing impaired, the Internet update offers a TDD ONLY option for tone delivery of emergency messages. Messages delivered to phone numbers marked TDD will only be delivered in a TDD/TTY format. Residents without Internet access may call 469-289-3270 to give their information over the phone.

This System Will Only Be Used For Emergency Purposes Unless You Opt-In to Receive Other Notifications:

Examples of times when the Emergency Communication System could be utilized: tornado warning, utility outage, evacuation notice & route, missing person, fires or floods, bomb threat, hostage situation, chemical spill or gas leak, and other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety.

Help Locating Your Main Water Shut Off

The Town is available on an emergency basis to shut off your water if there is a leak or burst pipe. The professional who repairs your leak or broken pipe should turn the water back on for you. If you experience a broken line and have water actively running out of it, please call:

  • Daytime Phone Number: 972-450-2871
  • After Hours Phone Number: 469-289-3270

Whether your leak is in your fire system or your water line, we will dispatch the appropriate department to assist you.

Find Your Emergency Shut Off

Staff will respond to calls as soon as possible but you may be able to help. If you know where your water shut-off is located, please go ahead and shut off you water during an active leak or broken line. If you don't know where your shut off is located, here are a few things to look for:

  • You may have a universal shut-off for both systems in your garage, laundry room, or even a closet.
  • You may have a water shut-off in your flower beds. It would have a green plastic cover over it.
  • The water meter may be accessed if the cover is open. There is a valve that may be turned off by using an adjustable wrench and by turning it one way or another.

Here are a couple of helpful videos that may better illustrate options for shutting off the water.

Have the professional who repairs your leak/broken pipe turn the water back on for you.

Check Weather Conditions

The National Weather Services offices in communities across the United States and its territories, supported by regional and national centers, provide the authoritative information needed by Americans, including national, regional, state, tribal, and local authorities, to plan, prepare, mitigate, and respond to natural and human-caused events. The office that supports North Texas is located in Fort Worth and below are links to some informative pages on their website.

If you suspect a natural gas leak in your home or outside, leave the area immediately and from a safe distance call 911, then call Atmos Energy at 1-866-322-8667. Emergency lines are available 24 hours a day.

Report a Water Leak

Crews are available 24 hours a day to assist with water leaks:

To Report a Leak or for After-Hours Emergencies: 469-289-3270

For Normal Operations during Business Hours:  972-450-2871

To request emergency water turn-off or to report a water meter leak, water main break, fire hydrant leak, or clogged or overflowing wastewater main, call the numbers above. An operator will be dispatched immediately. There is no charge for these services.

No one but an authorized agent may turn your water on or off at the water meter. This is to prevent any damage to the water meter and/or service line. Some houses have gate valves that can be accessed by the resident when necessary. If you are not sure if you have a gate valve, we will help you locate it.

Use Generators Safely

If there is a power outage, a generator can be a useful tool – but make sure that you are operating the equipment safely – the carbon monoxide it creates can be deadly.

Never use a generator indoors. Its location should be outside in a well-ventilated area at least 20 feet from doors, windows, or vents. Wind can blow carbon monoxide inside. Never use a generator in a garage, even if the door is open.

Protect Your Pipes & Sprinklers

In 2021, winter storms in Texas led to hundreds of thousands of insurance claims and billions of dollars in damage. Check out tips from our Public Works team and Texas Department of Insurance on how to protect your pipes.

When freezing conditions are in the forecast, make sure that your freeze sensors on your irrigation sprinklers are functioning or turn your sprinklers off when temperatures are forecasted to slip below freezing. Overspray from sprinkler systems can cause significant traffic issues when the water freezes on roads.

Find Regional Warming/Cooling Centers & Shelters

During extremely hot or cold inclement weather, daytime use warming and cooling centers, as well as some overnight shelters may be available, depending on the nature of the incident. Texas Department of Emergency Management maintains a list of Local Seasonal Relief Centers and Shelter Information. Call 2-1-1 for the latest information on available resources in the area.

Additional information on inclement weather emergency shelters for individuals experiencing homelessness is available at Housing Forward
