Bob Phillips, Director of Visitor Services

Bob Phillips began working with the town as Director of Visitor Services in 1998 and oversees the promotion of their 22 hotels, 170 restaurants, and visitor attractions.  Bob's department provides quality and innovative services to increase leisure and business travel to our town.  Bob also manages the Addison Conference & Theatre Centre providing additional meeting facilities and a venue for artistic experiences.  Bob has more than 29 years of involvement in the Texas tourism industry.  Serving as Executive Director of the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau from 1980-87, he was instrumental in the early development of Grapevine into a convention, festival and tourism destination.  Mr. Phillips was in the private sector for 9 years as Vice President of Marketing for Classic Attraction, Incorporated.

Phillips received a degree in business management from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University).  Bob is a member and past chair of the Texas Department of Economic Development's Tourism Advisory Committee and the Texas Travel Industry Association.  He has been active on several legislative affairs committees that were successful in increasing available dollars for the state's tourism marketing efforts. Bob has also served as Chairman of the Dallas Fort Worth Area Tourism Council and led their regional marketing efforts.

Bob has received the Texas Department of Transportation Tourism Division's Annual Gene Phillips Hospitality Award in recognition of his contributions to the $29 billion travel industry in Texas and his support of the state's tourism program.  This is especially gratifying as the award is named in honor of Bob's father, Gene Phillips, who managed Aquarena Springs and was a driving force in the emerging tourism industry in the 1970s.
