Christmas in July

Christmas in July

Many people are prompted in November and December by carolers and festive lights to think of those less fortunate and make contributions to brighten their holiday season.  Giving at this time is a generous gesture, but we often fail to recognize the ongoing needs of others.

That is why the Addison Employee Action Committee started the Christmas in July food drive to benefit Metrocrest Social Services (MSS).  In years past, through the generous donations of Addison employees, residents, and businesses, MSS received donations of 2,000 pounds of food and personal hygiene items for our neighbors in need.  Anyone is invited to join our drive by making a donation to help us top last year's amount.

Bunny Summerlin, Metrocrest Social Services Executive Director, confirms that summer is one of the agency's most difficult times.  Not only are donations usually down, but with children home from school throughout the day, families need more food.  Metrocrest Social Services serves families in Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, and Farmers Branch.

To bring attention to the food drive, employees have placed bright holiday decorated boxes in all the municipal buildings to collect food and personal hygiene items.  We also decorated extra boxes to place in participating Addison businesses and apartments, so that they, too, could get into the giving spirit.  The boxes will be available throughout the month of July.

The donated items will then be gathered by Town employees and presented to Metrocrest Social Services at our quarterly Meritorious Employee Luncheon in August.  MSS will distribute the items through their food bank located in Carrollton.  Building Managers from the participating Addison office buildings, as well as Metrocrest Social Services staff will be our honored guests at the luncheon.  For additional information on our Christmas in July program, please contact Mario Canizares at 972-450-7017.
