Bowl-a-thon to Benefit Wipe Out Kids' Cancer

With strikes, spares and gutter balls, the Town of Addison raised over $10,000 to donate to Wipe Out Kids' Cancer (WOKC).   The annual Bowl-a-thon on April 17th drew 36 teams: 15 Addison employee teams, 4 from the Town's Attorney's office, 9 from Addison businesses, and 8 teams from WOKC.  Funds were raised through donations from businesses and vendors, entry fees, pledges for pins, and the purchase of raffle tickets.

The Bowl-a-thon, in its fourth year, was the brainchild of the Employee Action Committee.  Looking for ways to bring employees together to socialize, have fun, and work for a good cause, the EAC chose bowling to create a little competition among departments.  Competition isn't limited to the action on the lanes but is also seen in colorful costumes, side wagers, and even a little good natured trash-talk among  the teams.

High scoring team was The Generals - A Team, from the General Services department.  If an award were presented for best dressed, the Police Department could probably claim it with both the Kingpin Kilters and the Hawaiian shirt team.  All teams, however, were quite striking.

The real winners of the day were the kids and WOKC.  Wipe Out Kids' Cancer is a 27 year-old, Dallas-based non-profit organization whose mission is to eradicate pediatric cancer by funding innovative research, education and treatment while providing hope to children affected with cancer.  Since 2005, the Town of Addison has donated over $30,000 Bowl-a-thon funds to support the charity.
