Fire Operations Division

Fire Operations Division
The Operations Division is responsible for the planning and execution of programs to prevent and suppress fires and respond to requests for service to a variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents in an effort to minimize loss of life and property. The operations division is divided into two distinct sections: Operations and EMS/Training.

The Operations section is responsible for budgeting, hiring, personnel actions, daily operations, facilities and equipment. The Operations Division ensures the provision of quality fire/rescue/emergency services by developing performance standards and regularly assessing personnel performance. The Operations Chief supervises shift personnel in the completion of daily tasks to maintain a state of constant readiness for emergencies. This Division controls the annual budget and expenditure of line items to accomplish established goals and objectives. The purchase of the highly specialized and technical vehicles and equipment utilized in the provision of emergency services is handled through this division. The maintenance of the Department’s facilities is also controlled through this Division.

The EMS/Training section conducts and coordinates all activities related to emergency medical services provision, training, safety, and employee development. The EMS/Training Division ensures provision of quality emergency medical services by developing and maintaining on-going QI/QA programs and purchasing state of the art EMS equipment and supplies. The EMS/Training Chief supervises and maintains the performance of all shift personnel in regard to EMS, training, and safety issues. Additionally, the EMS/Training Chief develops monthly training schedules, prepares lesson plans and related testing materials, provides instruction and testing, and ensures completion of all assigned training. This division maintains all EMS, fire, and outside training records and oversees the department’s health and physical fitness programs. This section assists with the preparation of the fire department budget; manages division budget accounts; manages all of the certifications and licenses as required by the various state agencies; and, handles all requests for legal information.

Operations personnel are cross-trained to provide both EMS and Fire related services. This allows for an efficient and effective use of the 48 personnel assigned to Addison’s two fire stations. Addison operates 2 ambulances, 2 paramedic fire engines, one aerial ladder truck, and a command vehicle. Additionally, the department maintains specialized equipment for response to airport emergencies and rescue situations. The Department answers 3,300 calls for service each year of which 2/3 are EMS related.
