Emergency Management
The Town of Addison has developed and adopted an Emergency Management Plan. This plan outlines and provides guidance on how to handle various emergencies that may occur with the Town of Addison. This planning document is a “multi-hazards” plan. A multi-hazards plan is a type of planning where one unified planning document is developed as opposed to various separate planning documents designed around only one hazard. This planning technique allows the Town to only utilize those portions of the plan that are needed for that particular emergency.

The emergency management plan also addresses the potential need for additional resources that the Town of Addison may not have. Providers of additional resources include other municipalities, counties, the State of Texas and the Federal Government and private sector businesses.

The Town of Addison maintains an Emergency Operating Center (EOC) that allows decision makers to work side by side at a specified location when a large-scale emergency is underway. This allows all Town officials to discuss important issues face-to-face and developed responses to the emergency being handled. The EOC also has a backup enhanced 911 emergency telephone system so if the primary 911 center goes off line, the backup system can be activated. In case there is an area-wide power outage, all systems and services located at the EOC have battery backup power capabilities as well as an emergency generator system for the entire center.

The Town of Addison also operates an outdoor emergency warning siren system. The current system maintains three siren locations (fire station one, fire station two, and the Village on the Parkway Shopping Center. Sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:00 p.m. If there is threatening weather (thunder storms the area, National Weather Service watches, etc.) the sirens will not be tested. These sirens are activated by either the Public Safety Dispatch Center or the EOC.
