John Comito Photography Exhibit at the Addison Conference Centre
John's passion for the art of photography began in high school, when his father lent him a twin lens reflex camera that belonged to his grandfather. After sneaking into the high school darkroom for a year, John finally registered for a photography class in his senior year. John's instructor said upon his entering the class, "So you decided to make it official this year, I see".
John attended Brigham Young University where he graduated with a BA in Photography. Upon graduation John served in the 19th Special Forces for 16 years as a still photographer. When he moved to Texas in 2000, John served with the 345th Tactical PsyOp Company where he had tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. While in both countries he photographed the people using digital equipment.
Working primarily with a 4x5 view camera, John's first love is black and white photography. John was drawn mainly to the intimate landscape and still life images. His interpretation has become increasingly abstract, driven by and affinity for simplicity. This has resulted in a vision that approaches minimalism, using natural light as the sole light source for his images. As he has matured as a photographer, John found his images do not have to be literal or immediately recognizable, but convey the artist's feelings and emotions. Tranquility and form are evident in John's images and he feels the black and white medium best depicts his vision of beauty.
His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and is represented in public and private collections throughout the West. John's Photographs may be seen at the Addison Conference Centre weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm. Additional images can be seen on his website, www.johncomito.com
