Artist Statement-Delbert Beckham

You can find beauty all around, sometimes in the most unlikely places.  Found items often take on new life when removed from their original context and are incorporated into a work of art.  We often miss this beauty when we focus only on the function of the items instead of their unique form.  Salvaged steel is a wondrous medium because it can be bent and twisted and molded and shaped and joined together into infinite possibilities.  It is forgiving and compliant while stubbornly retaining its original form.  I am rewarded twice as I take pieces from all around to produce a sculpture.  First, as I receive inspiration from God and see a flower or a tree or critter or just a pleasing shape come together.  Than again when someone connects with the work and enjoys the beauty or simply fun of what I have been able to construct.
