September 25, 2009: Birds of a Feather - I was driving down Montfort the other day and saw an interesting sight in front of the Jewish Family Services building across from WalMart. Spruill Park Dedication - We had the dedication of the park in Addison Circle on Sunday. North Texas Commission Meeting - We got to go to the new Cowboys Stadium on Tuesday for the first time. The 2009-10 Budget - After about six months of work the City Council unanimously adopted the budget for next year that will go into effect on October 1st. Althea, Rose of Sharon – Hibiscus Syriacus - This is one of my favorite plants.

September 11, 2009: September Flowers-The Red Spider Lilies are blooming at Town Hall. Summer Musical-Guys and Dolls was great! Health Fair-The Town’s Health Fair which is open to residents and town employees is on Thursday, October 8th at the Athletic Club from 3-7 P.M. Oktoberfest-The tent is being set up for our September 17-20th celebration. Car Burglaries-We are implementing some innovative measures to prevent car burglaries and to apprehend car burglars. The Budget Process-We had two meetings on the budget last week. Don’t forget!-The Addison Arbor Foundation Quarterly Education Event is this Saturday, September 12th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Athletic Club.

September 4, 2009: Two Budget Meetings-We have a City Council work session on Monday, September 7 at 6:00 P.M. at Town Hall to discuss the 2009-10 budget; Doug Spray-We lost one of our young firefighter paramedics this week; Commissioner Dickey-Maurine Dickey, our Dallas County Commissioner spoke to the Addison Business Association about a proposal that she and others are working on to develop a high speed rail system for Texas; Addison Circle-I took some photos on Sunday in Addison Circle; Spruill Park-We are making good progress on Spruill Park and we are planning to dedicate it at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 20th; New Cross Walks-We recently installed new cross walks in the south Quorum Office Park.

August 28, 2009: Progress on the Budget - We continue to move through the budget process; Les Lacs Fountains - The fountains look good!; North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors and Real Estate Professionals (NTCAR) - Council members Don Daseke, Blake Clemens, and Kimberly Lay joined Bob Phillips, the Director of Visitor Services and Carmen Moran, the Director of Development Services at the recent North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors meeting in Dallas. White Rock Chapel - The new church building is progressing well.

August 21, 2009: 2009-10 Budget - We are continuing through the budget process. Refrigerated Air - When I was a kid, growing up in Orange, down on the Texas coast, air conditioning was unusual. Les Lacs Pond Fountains - I hope you have had the opportunity to see the new fountains in the Les Lacs area. Monday Meeting, August 24 - At 6:00 on Monday we will be meeting in a work session at Town Hall to discuss our branding initiatives and the Hotel Fund for next year.

August 14, 2009: White Rock Masonic Lodge-Fred Silver came by last week and brought me a coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of the White Rock Masonic Lodge; Les Lacs Pond-We are expecting the new fountains by the middle of next week, but in the meantime, we have continued to lose fish in the pond; Perseid Meteor Shower-My youngest daughter and I were out in the driveway at about 1:30 in the morning on Wednesday watching for the meteors; Budget and Belt Line-We are having another budget worksession on Tuesday, August 18th at Town Hall. We will be continuing to discuss the general fund budget with the council and to share the latest design ideas for Belt Line with them; Sales Tax-The August sales tax report for Addison, which reflects May sales, was 8.5% below May of 2008; The Crape Myrtles-The Crape Myrtles have loved the heat this summer and the colors have been great.

July 17, 2009: I thought I might take a minute to talk about our system of government in Addison and share a typical week of the city management staff. I am responsible for submitting the annual budget recommendations that accompany my understanding of the Council’s goals. Here is what happened last week: Sunday, 6:00 – 10:00 P.M. - Lea, Chris and I had dinner with two consultants from the International City/County Management Association that are doing a study of the police and fire departments for Addison. Monday, we start every week with an administrative staff meeting that lasts about an hour and then we launch into the week. Tuesday, I met with the Mayor at 9:00 A.M. to go over the City Council agenda, followed by a meeting with the staff at 10:00 to go over the City Council agenda. Wednesday, we have a post council meeting at 10:00 after each meeting to discuss what transpired the night before and to decide what actions we need to take to follow the council’s direction from the meeting. Thursday, 6:15 A.M., Lea Dunn and I went with Hamid Khaleghipour, our IT Director, to the Texas Technology Forum in Las Colinas. Friday, Lea Dunn, Chris Terry and I meet from about 9:00 to11:00 A.M. to review projects and issues from the week. We had lunch at 11:30 at the White Rock Chapel at Winnwood and Celestial.

July 10, 2009: Kaboom Town-July 3rd was great! Huge crowd! Great for the hotel and restaurant businesses! Neighborhood Parade-Thanks to Chris Mulvaney and all the neighbors on the west side of town that put the July 4th parade and picnic together. World Affairs Council at Intercontinental Hotel on July 29-The World Affairs Council is hosting a luncheon and program on Wednesday, July 29th that will feature Mark Hurd. Addison Midday Rotary Club-Neil Hewitt will be the 2009-10 President of the Addison Midday Rotary club that meets each Tuesday at noon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Midway and Proton. Extended Hours at the Outdoor Pool-We are trying extended hours at the outdoor pool in response to some of the parents with small children. The 2009-10 Municipal Budget-The Town’s charter requires that the City Manager file a budget with the City Council by July 31st of each year.

July 3, 2009: Urban Wildlife Forum We had over 120 people show up around the lake to hear the presentations last week from the officials from Texas Parks and Wild Life. July 4th Parade - Don’t forget the Fourth of July Parade around the Les Lacs Lake begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at the Pavilion across from the Athletic Club. Kaboom Town - We are having a couple hundred thousand of our closest friends in town tonight for Kaboom Town. DISD School - We are having a meeting on July 15th to bring everyone up to date on the new DISD School that is being planned for the Loos Field site. It will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Athletic Club. North Dallas Water Supply Corporation - We had our semi annual meeting of the North Dallas Water Supply Corporation meeting this week.

June 26, 2009: Metrocrest Chamber The Metrocrest Chamber had their Business Expo at the Addison Conference Centre this week. Kaboom Town Kaboom Town is on Friday, July 3. Addison is a big hit! I mentioned that we get a lot of phone calls before an event, but we also get lots of inquiries on our web site Fortune 500 Companies Did you know that Texas has the most Fortune 500 Companies? DART The DART Board unanimously approved a phased approach to the construction of the Orange Line that goes through Las Colinas into the north end of the airport's Terminal A and B. The South Quorum The Quorum Association made a request to the Town to look at installing pedestrian cross walks on Quorum Drive Addison Urban Wildlife Forum Don’t forget the Urban Wildlife Forum will be on Monday at 7:00 P.M. at the deck on the south end of the Les Lacs Pond

June 19, 2009: DART Last Friday, Dart held their request for information meeting on the Public Private Partnership Concept for the Cotton Belt Rail Line. Urban Wildlife Forum Les Lacs Pond South End Monday, June 29th at 7:00 p.m. - Representatives from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be on hand to discuss the animals found on the ponds and in our community. Legislative Report - We were disappointed that the bill died that would have allowed voters in each county to decide if they wanted to increase the gasoline tax to fund transportation projects in their county. Fiscal Notes -Susan Combs, the Texas Comptroller sends out some interesting information from time to time about the Texas Economy and I was kind of surprised to read that the Texas Lottery has contributed $11 billion to state education since 1977. The Nose - I had some questions from people about why I wasn’t at the last council meeting and then I showed up at the end with my nose bandaged up.

June 05, 2009: Airport Meeting Last week we had a meeting of the Addison Airport tenants, businesses, pilots and other interested parties.; Hospital Groundbreaking Mayor Chow and all of the City Council were invited to participate in the ground breaking for the new Methodist Hospital for Special Surgery at Dallas Parkway and Sojourn in north Addison.; DART D2 Meeting I have been serving on a technical committee that has been studying a second alignment for rail in downtown Dallas.; The Cotton Belt DART is having conversations about Public/Private Partnerships for the construction and operation of the Cotton Belt.
