- July 3, 2009: Urban Wildlife Forum We had over 120 people show up around the lake to hear the presentations last week from the officials from Texas Parks and Wild Life. July 4th Parade - Don’t forget the Fourth of July Parade around the Les Lacs Lake begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at the Pavilion across from the Athletic Club. Kaboom Town - We are having a couple hundred thousand of our closest friends in town tonight for Kaboom Town. DISD School - We are having a meeting on July 15th to bring everyone up to date on the new DISD School that is being planned for the Loos Field site. It will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Athletic Club. North Dallas Water Supply Corporation - We had our semi annual meeting of the North Dallas Water Supply Corporation meeting this week.

- June 26, 2009: Metrocrest Chamber The Metrocrest Chamber had their Business Expo at the Addison Conference Centre this week. Kaboom Town Kaboom Town is on Friday, July 3. Addison is a big hit! I mentioned that we get a lot of phone calls before an event, but we also get lots of inquiries on our web site Fortune 500 Companies Did you know that Texas has the most Fortune 500 Companies? DART The DART Board unanimously approved a phased approach to the construction of the Orange Line that goes through Las Colinas into the north end of the airport's Terminal A and B. The South Quorum The Quorum Association made a request to the Town to look at installing pedestrian cross walks on Quorum Drive Addison Urban Wildlife Forum Don’t forget the Urban Wildlife Forum will be on Monday at 7:00 P.M. at the deck on the south end of the Les Lacs Pond

- June 19, 2009: DART Last Friday, Dart held their request for information meeting on the Public Private Partnership Concept for the Cotton Belt Rail Line. Urban Wildlife Forum Les Lacs Pond South End Monday, June 29th at 7:00 p.m. - Representatives from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be on hand to discuss the animals found on the ponds and in our community. Legislative Report - We were disappointed that the bill died that would have allowed voters in each county to decide if they wanted to increase the gasoline tax to fund transportation projects in their county. Fiscal Notes -Susan Combs, the Texas Comptroller sends out some interesting information from time to time about the Texas Economy and I was kind of surprised to read that the Texas Lottery has contributed $11 billion to state education since 1977. The Nose - I had some questions from people about why I wasn’t at the last council meeting and then I showed up at the end with my nose bandaged up.

- June 05, 2009: Airport Meeting Last week we had a meeting of the Addison Airport tenants, businesses, pilots and other interested parties.; Hospital Groundbreaking Mayor Chow and all of the City Council were invited to participate in the ground breaking for the new Methodist Hospital for Special Surgery at Dallas Parkway and Sojourn in north Addison.; DART D2 Meeting I have been serving on a technical committee that has been studying a second alignment for rail in downtown Dallas.; The Cotton Belt DART is having conversations about Public/Private Partnerships for the construction and operation of the Cotton Belt.

- May 15, 2009: Rotary Visitors from Peru. Steering committees Vision for North Texas - The Center for Development Excellence and Vision North Texas having a session on June 12, 2009 from 9 until 11:30 A.M. at the DFW Hyatt Regency Hotel entitled "Exploring Alternative Futures". The Raul Acevedo Bowlathon for Wipe out Kids Cancer raised over $10,000. Sam's Club Employees Recognized by Mayor. In May we sent officers to the Texas Peace Officer Memorial in Austin. For those who attended TASTE this last weekend you may have noticed the Sky Watch Surveillance Tower with the Carrollton Police Department markings on the side. Look for a continuation of the checkerboard theme on our new fleet vehicles scheduled to hit the streets next year. Municipal Election Results. - April 17, 2009: April 17, 2009: The Methodist Spine Hospital is coming to Town - Last Tuesday evening the City Council followed the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Manager’s recommendation to approve zoning that would allow the construction of a new 32 bed spine hospital on Dallas Parkway in the north part of town. DISD School at Loos Field - Councilmembers Tom Braun, Greg Hirsch, Kimberly Lay and Planning and Zoning Commissioner Alan Wood joined Assistant City Manager Chris Terry and myself on an architectural tour of three DISD Schools.

- April 10, 2009 Some weeks I know exactly what I am going to share with you and then some weeks it is more of a challenge. Two Surveys: We are conducting two surveys by mail that we would appreciate your help on. Remingtons: Congratulations to Remington’s Restaurant! On April 14 the City Council will recognize Remington Restaurant for 30 years of outstanding food and service in the restaurant business. Addison Airport Hosting AAAE: The Addison Airport will be hosting the annual conference of the American Association of Airport Executives April 26-28. Addvocates: We were thrilled that we had 89 people come to our volunteer sign up session at the Athletic Club. Bowl-A-Thon: Our Employee Action Committee organizes a Bowl-A-Thon each year for Wipe Out Kids Cancer, a program at Childrens Hospital. - April 3, 2009 Les Lacs Drive Update: Here are the results of all of our polling and research on Les Lacs, and what we are going to do. 2009-2010 Work Program: The work program for 2009-10 has been assembled. Lauren Clark from our public works department has assembled all the information from the various departments and placed it in a brochure that may be accessed on line. Town Meeting: Over 200 people showed up for last night’s Town meeting. You can watch the proceedings by accessing our web site. Branding the Town: The Council and the Citizens Advisory Committee that worked on Branding and Advertising met last week to hear a presentation on our branding efforts Dog Park Parking: The dog park parking is out of control!The Super Bowl is coming!: The Mayor and I met with area mayors and city managers to tour the arts district in downtown Dallas and to hear a presentation on the Super Bowl. Budget Work Session - Saturday April 4 at 11:30 a.m. We usually start the budget process in May after the elections, but we thought this year we would provide an extra service by starting the process in April.

- Tree Trimming in ONCOR’s Rights of Way: Many of you have called to express your dismay at the tree trimming that has been going on in ONCOR’s rights of way along Addison streets. New Water Tower: On Tuesday the City Council had a work session to review the preliminary concepts for a new water tower that will be located at Arapaho and Surveyor, just across the street from our pump station. Town Meeting: on Thursday, April 2 We have a lot of information we need to share with you. Budget Work Session: on Saturday, April 4 at 11:30 A.M. We usually start the budget process in May after the elections, but we thought this year we would provide an extra service by starting the process in April.

- March 13, 2009: Two Ways YOU Can HelpBLOOD DRIVE. Doug Spray is a firefighter paramedic here in Addison and he has recently gone through extensive surgery to address a form of cancer that has affected his lungs and spineBONE MARROW TRANSPLANT. Karen Mellow Stock is the daughter of Councilmember Roger Mellow and his wife Harriet. Karen has lymphoma and is in need of a bone marrow transplantThe Legislature: Today was the last day to file a bill in the Texas Legislature. Recycling: We are moving to the next level of conversations about recycling. Belt Line Update: We are finalizing recommendations for lighting, landscaping and bus shelters on Belt Line. Ask the City Manager: I got about 15 questions from people last week. Interestingly, about a third of them came from people that live in other cities. Lawsuits: We were successful in two Lawsuits this week. Both of the lawsuits involved issues on the Airport. The first one was the Eddins’ Enterprise case. The second lawsuit involved Mission Aire, a tenant under a 40 year ground lease at the Airport. This is good for the citizens and other businesses in Addison.

- Thanks to Everyone! The blood drive for firefighter paramedic Doug Spray was quite moving. Remember the Bone Marrow Drive at Northpark Mall on March 29th. Last week I told you about the Bone Marrow Drive at Northpark to benefit Karen Mellow Stock and others who have lymphoma Spring Flowers and Spring Break I took off a couple of days this week to be with my family for spring break. Dallas Business Journal Report We got a nice mention in the Dallas Business Journal about industrial and flex space. Texas Legislature There were 7,000 bills filed in the legislature by the deadline last Friday

- February 27, 2009 Les Lacs Drive I got about 80 responses from residents with various solutions for addressing the traffic on Les Lacs Drive. Remington's Restaurant The restaurant business is a very competitive and tough business to be in, and to do it for 30 years in the same location is amazing. It is not Hello Dolly! The Out of the Loop Fringe Festival starts on Thursday, March 5 at the Water Tower Theatre. The Mood of the Country Sometimes in the city business you get to experience people's frustrations first hand.
