Market Leading Wireless Monitoring Solution Protects Citizen Information --
Atlanta - September 28, 2004 - AirDefense, the leader in 24x7 wireless security monitoring, today announced that the Town of Addison, Texas has deployed AirDefense Enterprise to protect the public safety network and its citizens from wireless threats. AirDefense enables the town's public safety mobile vehicles to transmit video and data to backend databases in a secure manner.

Within the last year the Town of Addison recognized the efficiency, productivity and mobility of using a wireless network for transmitting a high volume of video and data from public safety mobile vehicles to backend databases. For example, in the past, police personnel were making multiple trips back to the station to send video and voice data to central dispatch. With wireless, officers now are able to upload information from mobile vehicles and reduce upload time to eight minutes for two hours of video.

However, Addison realized the need to secure the transfer of this wireless information. To do this, they turned to AirDefense. The AirDefense WLAN security and monitoring system is based on the patent-pending technology that incorporates distributed sensors and an appliance. The remote sensors monitor all wireless LAN activities 24x7 and communicate with the appliance, which correlates and analyzes the data to provide scalable, centralized management of real-time rogue detection, policy enforcement, intrusion protection and health monitoring of the wireless LAN.

"Wireless provides numerous benefits, but it is pretty much an open environment," said Zeis Djaja network specialist for the Town of Addison. "To best of our knowledge, AirDefense provides the most complete wireless security solution and is the only product that guarantees a secure transmission channel."

Equally important, Addison recognized the need to secure the wireless network to protect citizen information and is deploying AirDefense in additional public safety vehicles such as fire trucks and ambulances to secure the transfer of digital patient information. If a security breach were to occur, Addison runs the risk of private citizen data being accessed by a hacker. This would lead to violation of citizen rights and destruction of the local government's reputation. Additionally, like communities and organizations all over the country, Addison is faced with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulations coming into effect April 2005, which require patient information to remain secure.

"AirDefense provides the Town of Addison and the benefit of managing security at an enterprise level. When you are dealing with citizens' rights and safety, it is imperative organizations track their wireless network and prevent rogue devices from coming on the network. AirDefense allows Addison this capability," said Anil Khatod, chief executive officer of AirDefense.
